Archives For June 2008

I don’t about you but I love good music. Music that makes you think, music that inspires you, and more importantly music that moves you to be something and to do something ( I really don’t know what that means, but sounds good).
So when I stumbled across a solo project by Jon Foreman, lead singer of a band called switchfoot, I found a hidden gem.
It was December and I was doing my usual new music Tuesday routine of checking iTunes. I saw that he had this little EP out and so I decided to give it a little try. I was hooked immediately from the opening track, “The Cure for Pain”
From there I listened intently and marveled at the use of different instruments and the fact that he produce the cd on his own on the road.
I remember a couple of months later looking on iTunes again and seeing that he had another EP out, this time it was “winter ep.” I bought that sucker immediately and from there on I continued to fall in love.
A couple of weeks ago jonny released “Summer” making the seasonal EP’s complete. To me this little triology plus one (what is that, like a fourilogy) complete.
I would highly highly highly encourage you to check his stuff out, it is amazing. I hope that he makes more but for now I will listen to all of them at one time and enjoy.
Here are my Favorite Tracks

What is some new music you have been listening to?

What inspires you? No really, think about it, what inspires you? For some of you, the answer might be nothing. But for others the answer cannot be put into words. Inspiration is everywhere. One place that has been inspiring me lately is the Bible.
I don’t want to sound overly spiritual or that I am a super Christian, but I have found myself inspired by the words of God. I find myself wanting to express what I just read. And I ask myself, how much do I share my inspiration with others? The answer to that question is not very much. And yet I think we should share our inspiration with others, we should be in constant conversation as to what is inspiring and moving us to create, to do, and to act.
Anyone who is inspired is moved, they are moved to do something. For some of us, we are inspired to do something because of the mistreatment of others. Hearing about situations in certain places where people are struggling inspires you to move. Others are inspired by a feeling or an emotion, moved to express this emotion or feeling in a painting, song, picture, etc… Others are inspired by a conversation, it inspires them to go and share with someone what they just talked about.
We are all inspired by something and compelled to move, compelled to take action and do something. But I wonder if we have lost or motivation to be inspired. I wonder if the amazement of life and beauty has lost its touch and we have become uninspired by the mountains that surround us? It is easy to do this. To become use to seeing something or hearing something and not think anything of it. In a society where our brains are overloaded with bright lights and graphics it is easy to miss inspiration.
I ask you this question again, what inspires you? I want to know, no I really mean it, I want to know. Because I want to know, I want you to go to our blog and I want you to respond to the post called “Inspiration” I want you share what inspires you. Whether that is through a picture, a song, or a word, What Inspires you?
