Currently: What Phone are You Rocking

Question: What Cell Phone Do You Have?

Mine: I am rocking the iPhone. And with the announcement of OS4.0 coming to the iPhone this summer I couldn’t be more happy. Why you ask? (I supposed you ask) Because of a couple of things, but first and foremost the ability to run multiple apps at once. This has been a little while in the making and phones like the Android from Google have already provided this great feature. But in true Steve Jobs style, Apple waited until they could have this feature run with great performance and not suck up to much battery life. And this year, the rumor is floating around that on June 28th at the WWDC, Mr Jobs will be announcing a new iPhone. Last year the iPhone 3gs was announced and I held off from getting one in hopes that this year there would be something like an iPhone 4 or something like that.

What say You:

What Cell Phone Do You Have? What is your favorite App?

Original iPhone, baby – she’s two years, four months old.

    Seriously, my phone is old.

I’ve got people who see the original aluminum casing and ask, “Hey, where’d you get that cool cover?”

If I can get enough CDs and DVDs together I’m going to send them to iPodmeister and get a new 3GS, but if not I’ll just use this one until she quits working.

That makes me happy. If you hold out you can get the new one that I am pretty positive will be announced soon.

Yeah I’m hoping they’ll get a new one out – especially since mine isn’t compatible with any version of OS 4.0.

I’ve got my fingers crossed that I can collect enough CDs and DVDs to send them in to iPodMeister to get a new one for free.

I have an iphone. Well I’ve had it for a month now. I was totally lame with the samsung propel, but now I’m one of the cool kids. Seriously though, I absolutely love what all the iphone can do for me.

It is awesome. There is so much you can do and it is only going to get better. Exciting times. I had a razor before I got my iPhone, so like you I stepped up to the big leagues very fast.

Had the original gen iPhone until a month ago. Had to upgrade bc it was completely cracked and unusable. But now I have a 3GS.

    • Kyle Reed April 9, 2010 at 10:54 am #

You should definitely hold onto that. It would be like the first ever iPod

I’ve been rocking a 3G for almost 2 years now – wanted to upgrade to the GS last year, but like you I saw it as an appeasement to the masses to bide time for this year when they roll out something legitimately awesome. I also think they’ll be breaking exclusivity with AT&T, which makes sense why they’d go all out this year. Just my opinion.

I think you are right, they will be opening up to Verizon here shortly.

Original iPhone that I bought on opening day!

    • Kyle Reed April 9, 2010 at 11:15 am #

I am interested to see how long you can keep that thing working.

I find it kind of amusing that people got so worked up yesterday about new ‘features’ for the iPhone OS that it should have already had particularly since it falls under the heading of a “smart phone.”

Don’t get me wrong. I’m a fan of the iPhone and I’m hoping that on June 28th, Mr. Jobs announces the iPhone will be available on a good carrier like Verizon instead of the suckage that is AT&T. It will be interesting to see if they call it the iPhone 4G and still only use AT&T who isn’t expected to even begin rolling out 4G service until 2011 while Sprint and Verizon are already rolling theirs out this year and expect to have quite a bit of coverage by the end of the year.

That being said, I am still on my BB. I have the Tour which I like better than the Curve. It’s a little bigger and the keyboard is better. Favorite application? I would say its the integrated GPS app.

    • Kyle Reed April 9, 2010 at 11:17 am #

I couldn’t do the BB, I had one for a little while and just didn’t like it.
You are right, they need to open it up to verizon and maybe sprint. AT&T needs to step up their game. Unfortunately I switched and am going to be frustrated if they role out to Verizon and AT&T doesn’t upgrade or make their service better.

    • Nathan April 9, 2010 at 12:38 pm #

I felt the same way Jay until I came to the realization that Apple really doesn’t care what other features are on other phones. Jobs even mentioned this yesterday when he announced multi-tasking. They’re late to the game, BUT they’ve found a way to do it better so that it doesn’t chew up battery and resources, etc. With that approach, it makes sense why they do what they do, although frustrating to the consumer for sure.

As far as the iPhone on Verizon – I wanted this too and switched to AT&T because I didn’t want to wait. If it goes to Verizon, honestly, I don’t know if I’ll switch back (at least right away) because of the sheer amount of data that’s consumed on the iPhone. I think Verizon’s (or any carrier) is going to have some issues up front, dealing with the kind of traffic the iPhone generates. People use it as a computer, not as a phone (I’m one of them). It’ll be interesting!

i rock the blackberry. cant to iphone or any “touch screen phones”

my fave app is twitter. what else? ;)

    • Kyle Reed April 9, 2010 at 11:38 am #

fair enough, and yes twitter is the best. Well, Pandora has a place in that argument.

I have had a sucky, disappointing BJ II for nearly 2 years. Many buttons don’t work correctly & that stinks. Have a BB Curve on the way from AT&T (free w/commitment). We’ll see. I looked at Samsung Impression-very cool to play with. And a Backflip (motorola) but it, like the iPhone had screwy proprietary stuff going on. Not that BB doesn’t, but daughter loved her BB & would go back if she hadn’t gotten an iPhone for grad last May. She loves it,but misses her BB. Go figure! Oh, and we bought her the 3G a week before the GS came out & the 3G went down to $99. Boo!

    • Kyle Reed April 9, 2010 at 11:39 am #

that does suck, but like any technology that always happens. I think that is how the original iPhone users feel when the price dropped dramatically. I can imagine the iPad owners will feel the same when the price drops on that bad boy here soon (at least I hope).

iPhone 3g (8gb) for me…wife upgraded to 3gs a while back, but I’m holding out for the new one.

Favorite apps: YouVersion Bible app (lifechurch.tv) and probably Facebook.

    • Kyle Reed April 9, 2010 at 12:00 pm #

Nice, I am just glad they made apps like qik and ustream that allows you to turn the iPhone 3g into a video camera.

I have a Droid. Multi tasking isn’t anything new to me.

    • Kyle Reed April 9, 2010 at 1:27 pm #

I think if I was still with t-mobile and didn’t have an iPhone I would get the droid. Seems like a pretty cool phone.

  11. Jonathan Jacob April 9, 2010 at 1:56 pm #

Wow..does anyone not have an ipone or BB? haha. I just have a samsung alias 2…nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. I would get the Iphone if it does come out on Verizon…my sister has the droid, but I like the touch-screen on the iphone better. It boggles my mind how we used to live before all this stuff…mind you, I’m only 20 haha.

Right now, an old LG Dare. puaha! I needed to move networks, and I’m just waiting for a good phone to come out of Verizon. Patiently waiting for the HTC Incredible to come out.

I think I’m done with the iPhone. Everyone has it, they are more controlling than ever, even with the release of 4.0 (which fixes all my frustrations with the OS that I had in the past) I’m just looking for something new.

  13. Zac April 10, 2010 at 9:17 pm #

Currently have a BB Curve from Verizon. Wanted to get the Google Nexus One, but for some reason Verizon keeps putting off when they are releasing it, however another Android phone the HTC Incredible is coming out April 29th and I will soon be rocking that. Screw Apple and their forcing you to use their app store and all their closed systems.

    Sanyo Katana II.

    Oh that’s right.

    Be jealous.

I’m still using a 2 and a half year old motorola flip phone.Still works pretty well, although it would be nice if it had a better camera. I did recently get an iPod touch, so at least i can use a lot of the iPhone apps on that and not feel too out of date
