Don't Forget it is FICTION

Kyle Reed // @kylereed

I can not count how many times I have had people tell me that the Da Vinci Code is Fiction. No kidding it is fiction. Christians keep on saying that they are upset because people are accepting it is truth and people are believing it. To quote someone “People just do not realize that this story is made.” This was the comment that I heard from someone Sunday when they asked me what I thought of the movie. I shot back a quick comment saying “what if it is not fiction?” I thought it was funny and thought provoking to say the least, but the person that I was talking to did not find it to funny. Then I said that not just non-Christians, but Christians need to realize that it is fiction. Christians are treating this thing like it is truth and there is evidence to prove that what Dan Brown is saying is true. I just like the people who say that they have never read the book and are not going to see the movie but know that it is bad and they are not going to support it. It is just for entertainment, have we as Christians become so threatened to what we believe that we can not go and see a movie out just for fun to enjoy a good story. After walking out of the movie theater I looked to my right and there were the groups joining together to talk about the movie and what they thought. I knew it was a Church group because you had a African-American women, an Asian women, a Hispanic man, and a couple of white guys standing there. When does this group of people go and see a movie together? I caught one comment after walking by them and all I heard was “I never read the book” I can only imagine where that conversation was going. I am sure they read all the books that talk about breaking the Da Vinci code or cracking the Da Vinci code, but did not have enough time to sit down and enjoy the real thing. It is like the cliff notes of the story. Another thing that I find funny, this is the last rant that I say, is how people are saying that they are not going to see it because they do not want to give their money to the movie. Come on, have you looked at the box office stats or whatever they are called, it is making tons of money, I am sure they do not care about you 6 dollars that they did not get, I guess a better idea is to save that money and go and spend it on a nail that blessed by the passion of the Christ movie or to buy a potato chip shaped like Jesus, that sounds good to me. Go and see the movie, I enjoyed it. It followed the book pretty well and I thought that it was pretty action packed. I enjoyed the last part where Tom Hanks and whoever was sophie had the conversation after finding out she was the last living descendent of Jesus. Can’t wait for Angels and Demons to hit the screen. Keep it up Dan Brown.
P.S. Where was the book cracking the Prayer of Jabez? Just a question.

Kyle!! I am appalled that you would endorse such heresy! … And Besides, what we NEED is more Prayer of Jabez and less of that “theology stuff”. Christianity’s about spirituality and experience. Man… seems like somebody’s got a case of the Mondays there Kyle.
