How Not To Reinvent Yourself

Kyle Reed // @kylereed

What is the saying, imitations is the sincerest form of flattery?

Well, when you are a social media company copying someone else is obvious. In a last ditch effort to save what use to be the biggest online social media website out there, Myspace showed off their brand new layout.

Check it out:

Sorry Myspace, I do not see this one working out for you.

Why is it that instead of thinking outside the box, people just copy what is working?

I see it all the time in churches, websites, and music.

Own up, did you ever have a myspace account?

OH, I most definitely had one… Back in 2004!

I finally gave up the myspace ghost in 2006 when my school (JSU) was the last college on earth to sign up for a facebook account… privileges… whatever you call it. By that point, moms had figured out how to use myspace and it had become horrifically lame.

FWIW — I see the same thing happening to Facebook before the year is over.

Yeah i did, i check it occasionally because my sister talks to me through it

      • Shelby

Yes I had one and still have one. I used to find really great bands through it but I’m never on anymore…just haven’t got around to deleting it. I should do that.

wait…Myspace isn’t cool anymore? No wonder I’m so popular there!

  • Laura Elizabeth

It looks just like facebook. Poor little myspace. *tear* Yes, I totally rocked the m-space for a while. I deleted it because of the creepers. Ew. I’m with you on the wishing people would be more creative on their own. :)

Ouch. Looks like FaceSpace is finally here. I totally had (still have, I think) a MySpace account. Didn’t everyone? It’s always been pretty useless though.

A better question – did anyone have a Friendster account?
